The GGFI ranks the world&#8217;s financial centres according to<br \/>\nperceptions of the quality and depth of their green finance offerings.<\/p>\n<p>In this inaugural edition (GGFI 1), financial centres in Western Europe outperformed<br \/>\nthose in other regions. The full report can be downloaded here<br \/>\n[http:\/\/www.finance-watch.org\/ifile\/Publications\/Reports\/GGFI_1_Full_Report.pdf ].<\/p>\n<p>The report&#8217;s findings include:<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; The leading green financial centres in each region are London, San Francisco,<br \/>\nShanghai and Shenzhen, Johannesburg and Cape Town, Mexico City, and Moscow.<br \/>\n&#8212; Paris, Frankfurt and New York lead the centres most cited as likely to become more<br \/>\nsignificant over the next two to three years.<br \/>\n&#8212; Financial centres that have shown leadership in green finance policy are expected to<br \/>\ngain in significance, with Paris at the top of this list.<br \/>\n&#8212; In some countries, smaller centres with a strong green focus such as San Francisco and<br \/>\nHamburg outperformed larger centres such as New York and Frankfurt.<br \/>\n&#8212; The rankings are liable to change in future editions, as they are based on tightly<br \/>\nclustered scores in the range of 322-437 points out of 1,000.<br \/>\n&#8212; The level of scores suggests that green finance can grow substantially in size and<br \/>\nquality.<br \/>\n&#8212; Supportive policy measures and investor demand are seen as the main drivers of green<br \/>\nfinance.<br \/>\n&#8212; Renewable Energy Investment, Green Bonds and Sustainable Infrastructure Finance were<br \/>\nrated as areas of high impact on sustainability and of high interest to respondents.<br \/>\n&#8212; Disinvestment from fossil fuels was rated as high impact on sustainability but low<br \/>\ninterest to respondents, suggesting room for policy change.<\/p>\n<p>Top Five Centres for Green<br \/>\nFinance &#8212; Penetration<\/p>\n<p>London<br \/>\nLuxembourg<br \/>\nCopenhagen<br \/>\nAmsterdam<br \/>\nParis<\/p>\n<p>Top Five Centres for Green<br \/>\nFinance &#8212; Quality<\/p>\n<p>London<br \/>\nAmsterdam<br \/>\nBrussels<br \/>\nHamburg<br \/>\nParis<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Simon Zadek, Co-Director, UN Environment Inquiry into\u00a0the Design of a Sustainable<br \/>\nFinancial System; Visiting Professor and DSM Senior Fellow for Partnerships and<br \/>\nSustainability, Singapore Management University, said:<\/p>\n<p>&#171;Ratings and indexes are important instruments to enable effective communication of<br \/>\nrelative and absolute progress, as well as encouraging a race to the top, and a healthy<br \/>\ndebate of what constitutes success and how it can best be measured.
